What's captured
- Site document libraries and drives, enumerated and backed up file by file.
- Every version of a file that Microsoft 365 has retained is backed up, not just the current one.
- File content itself, encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it leaves the backup pipeline.
What's not captured
No permissions or ACL capture
BYOVault backs up file content, not the sharing permissions or access-control lists attached to a site, library, or item. Restoring a file restores its content and location — not who was previously allowed to see it.
Site structure and metadata beyond what’s needed to restore a file to its original path (list schemas, site pages, permissions, and similar SharePoint-specific configuration) are out of scope today.
Restoring SharePoint data
SharePoint files can be restored in place to their original library and path via drive-inject, or downloaded directly. See In-Place Restore for details, and Restore Limitations for what restore does not do (there is no bulk “restore this entire site” action).
