Workloads Overview

BYOVault backs up four workloads: SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, and on-prem file servers. Each has its own detail page; this page is only a map to them.

The four workloads

  • SharePoint — site document libraries and drives, backed up file by file.
  • OneDrive — each user’s personal drive, backed up file by file.
  • Exchange — mailbox messages, backed up per folder using delta sync.
  • File Servers — on-prem shares, backed up through a local agent that connects outbound only.

What they have in common

All four workloads write encrypted content into the customer’s own Azure Blob container or S3 bucket — never into storage BYOVault itself holds. Content is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it leaves the backup pipeline.

All four retain every version captured across backup runs, not just the latest, browsable in Version History.

Where a workload supports it, a file or item can also be restored in place to its original location, rather than only downloaded — see each workload’s own page for details.

Restore has limits that apply across all four workloads: there is no bulk, whole-drive, or whole-mailbox restore. See Restore Limitations for the full list.
